Loosening the ankles and hips, drawing the spine tall and settling into the grounded, lifted posture that holds up every strut and pose you will dance in heels.
Struts & Signature Moves
Power walks, rolling through the body, hip work, hair flicks and level changes — the core vocabulary of heels, rehearsed unhurriedly until it sits comfortably.
The Routine
A full slice of attitude-soaked choreography to a current pop or R&B track, taught in chunks so dancers of any level can pick it up and make it their own.
Floor Work & Lines
Deliberate drops, knee slides and long leg extensions, finished with the sharp shapes and bite nobody mistakes for anything but heels.
Perform & Cool Down
Running the whole piece at full tilt, camera optional, before easing out the calves, ankles and quads to look after the joints.
About Heels Dance Classes in Bournemouth
Heels is slinky, attitude-driven choreography performed up on a heel — a style woven from confident struts, body rolls, hair flicks and floor work, all riding today's pop and R&B. Our weekly heels classes in Bournemouth rest on the four things the style truly needs: posture, control, power and swagger. You will learn to walk like you mean it, carry strong lines, lower to the floor and rise again with control, then knit the lot into a routine you can actually perform.
Bournemouth is hardly short of gyms, beachfront fitness and late nights out, yet a proper weekly heels class for adult beginners and improvers has been hard to come by. We are launching ours at the town-centre studio on Commercial Road, a short stroll from the Triangle and the Old Christchurch Road bars and a simple journey for dancers in East Cliff, Boscombe, Westbourne and right along the seven miles of sand. With BU and AUB on the doorstep, the room mixes students and weekly regulars alike — and the focus stays as much on how you feel as on how you move.
There is no need to turn up in heels or with any dancing behind you. Loads of dancers begin in trainers and only swap into heels they can move in once their balance feels rock solid — no rush, no pressure either way. Have a look through all 20 of our dance classes in Bournemouth, or gather the group for a one-off burlesque hen party.

What Heels Gives You
Swagger That Sticks
Heels trains you to perform like the floor belongs to you. That blend of posture, struts and choreography leaves you with an attitude that lingers long after the shoes are back in the bag.
Balance & Power
Dancing on a heel switches on the ankles, core and legs in a way flat work simply cannot, growing real balance, steadiness and lower-body strength week after week.
A Routine to Flaunt
Each session leaves you with a complete routine of struts, rolls and floor work that looks superb on camera or out on the town — yours to keep and dance whenever the mood takes you.
Go at Your Own Speed
Trainers on your first night are completely welcome. We build the technique gently so you only rise into heels you can move in once your balance feels properly secure.
Your Heels Dance Journey
From that first confident strut to dancing a whole routine loaded with attitude — this is the way the path tends to run.
Standing Tall
Getting Started
Posture, the heels walk and your opening body rolls, backed up by balance drills that teach your weight where to sit. Learning to carry yourself with purpose before any fast choreography turns up.
Shoe Advice
Kick off in trainers if you'd rather. When heels appeal, go for a chunky block or platform you can genuinely move in and save the slender stilettos until your ankles have toughened up.
Finding Your Power
Developing Technique
Hair whips, isolated hip work, knee drops and controlled sinks down to the floor, all underpinned by the ankle and core conditioning that keeps the showier moves clean and injury-free.
Choreography Basics
Bite-size sequences that stitch a strut, a turn and a change of level into one flowing phrase. This is where it tips over from careful counting into proper, sassy dancing with real punch.
Owning the Performance
Floor Work & Attitude
Full floor sequences — drops, slides, leg extensions and tidy recoveries back to standing — dressed up with the character and edge that mark heels out.
Finding Your Style
Smouldering R&B, fierce pop or something cheeky and theatrical — you figure out which mood is yours and begin shaping a style people recognise as you.
The Heels Performer
Advanced Choreography
Longer, quicker routines with snappy transitions and detailed floor work, danced full out with the gloss and self-assurance of a genuine show.
What Comes Next
Move sideways into commercial or contemporary to deepen your technique, record clips for your socials, or take a spot in a showcase whenever one is going.
Heels Dance FAQ
The bits people most often want cleared up before they step into a pair of heels.
What goes on in a heels class each week? +
You learn slinky, attitude-led choreography performed up on a heel. Think confident struts, rolling through the body, hair flicks and drops to the floor, all set to today's pop and R&B and held together by posture, control, power and a healthy dose of swagger. Every routine is unpicked move by move so any level can grab it and dance it out.
Can I take part if I would rather keep my trainers on? +
Absolutely. Trainers are completely fine and you can stay in them as long as you like — the steps land the same way whether you are flat or lifted. When the heels do go on, pick a pair with a chunky block or platform you can actually move in and leave the spindly stilettos at home for now.
I have zero dance experience — will the heels class still work for me? +
It will. The session is mixed-ability and built so first-timers settle in straight away. We open with posture, walking and weight control, then stack the choreography on top, so you lay solid foundations rather than being flung into a routine before you have found your feet.
What is the price of a heels class in Bournemouth? +
A one-off drop-in costs £10 and there is nothing to sign up for. Prefer to commit? A four-week block is £32, which works out at £8 a session. No contracts, no joining fees — you book only the weeks that fit around your life.
Where in Bournemouth are the heels classes held? +
Our weekly heels regulars gather at the town-centre studio on Commercial Road, a couple of minutes from the Triangle and the Old Christchurch Road bars and an easy hop for dancers in East Cliff, Boscombe and Westbourne. Give us a shout and we will point you to the right slot.
Is dancing in heels actually safe? +
Yes, provided you build up gradually, which is exactly how we run it. Early weeks focus on where your weight sits, lowering with control and waking up the ankles before any quick choreography or floor work arrives. Knee pads make the floor sections kinder, and you only add height once your balance is genuinely steady.
How does heels differ from a commercial dance class? +
Commercial is that high-octane, music-video look most people dance flat in their trainers. Heels borrows the very same performance energy and lifts it onto the shoe, tightening the lines, sharpening the struts and folding in sultry body rolls and floor work. The two are close cousins, yet heels truly comes alive through the heel itself.
Is the heels class just for women? +
Definitely not — the door is open to everyone, whatever your gender. Heels is all about expression, self-assurance and the way you move, and dancers from every walk of life flourish in it. Wear heels or trainers, whichever suits you, and step into a room that has each other's backs.
Will heels dancing genuinely boost my confidence? +
That is really the whole point. Standing tall, nailing a strut and pulling off choreography you assumed was beyond you quietly rewires how you hold yourself. Most people head out of the studio standing a touch prouder, and that lift has a habit of sticking with them through the week.
Could I arrange a private heels session for myself or a group? +
Definitely — we lay on private one-to-ones, or a booking for your whole group, at whatever time works. They suit anyone wanting to sharpen technique at their own pace, prep a routine for a big occasion or build a little confidence ahead of the weekly class. Drop us a line and we will sort the particulars.
