Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm-Up & Isolations

We mobilise neck, ribs and hips through targeted isolation drills, then roll through the spine a few times so the body is awake and every accent can land sharp the second choreography begins.

10–25 mins

Grooves & Texture

Now we dig into the language of the style: crisp arm hits, shifts in level, hair whips, and the contrast between a relaxed groove and a hard stop that gives a routine its bite on camera.

25–40 mins

The Routine

We learn a fresh slice of choreography set to a song high in the charts, fed to you a few counts at a time and joined up gradually so beginners and improvers alike never lose their place.

40–50 mins

Attitude & Facings

This is where the personality goes in: where your eyes travel, the expression on your face, which way you open to the camera, and the shift from recalling moves to genuinely delivering them.

50–60 mins

Full-Out & Film

To close, we perform the full piece in smaller groups, grab a clip on camera if you want one, then ease back down with a relaxed stretch before you spill back out onto Commercial Road.

About Commercial Dance Classes in Bournemouth

Commercial is the high-gloss, made-for-the-screen end of dance — the look that powers stadium pop shows, the big televised award numbers and the videos racking up streams by the million. It pinches the impact of street and the precision of jazz, then dresses it up for an audience: rows of dancers moving as one, sharp lines, body rolls, hair whips and a confidence you can feel from the back row. Week by week our Bournemouth classes hand you those routines piece by piece — the grooves, the isolations, the facings and that final on-camera shine that lifts plain steps into a real performance.

For a town with this much nightlife and a student population this big — BU and AUB between them flood the place every September — it is odd that adults wanting to dance like the names behind the pop stars have had nowhere regular to go. That is the gap we are filling, from our base on Commercial Road in the heart of town, minutes from the Triangle and the late bars along Old Christchurch Road and within easy reach of East Cliff, Boscombe, Westbourne and the whole seven-mile sweep of beach. Every class is a clean 60 minutes of commercial choreography, and with the pier lit up of an evening you are never short of a spot to take it out for a spin.

There is no prior training to worry about and no special gear — a pair of trainers and clothes you can shift in will see you right. The teacher feeds you each eight-count slowly, lets the attitude follow once the footwork settles, and stacks it all into a finished routine before the hour is up. It is the chart-pop, camera-facing side of things, kept deliberately separate from the grittier energy of our street dance nights. What Commercial Gives You

Move Like the Pros

The choreography you see on tour stages, in glossy videos and across award shows is exactly what you train here, with working industry dancers leading the room.

Swagger and Performance

It is not enough to know the counts — through body rolls, hair whips and real attitude you learn how to project a routine straight down the lens.

Sweat Without the Gym

Snappy pick-up and flat-out run-throughs get your pulse going and work the whole body, all while your head is buried in remembering the next eight-count.

Every Level Welcome

Complete newcomers and longtime dancers train side by side, with every class built in layers so nobody falls behind and everybody leaves owning the routine.

Your Commercial Dance Journey

From a tentative first groove to a routine you'd happily put on camera — this is the path ahead.

Week 1–4

Finding the Groove

Getting Started

The early sessions are all about isolations, easy grooves and getting your timing honest. Bit by bit you discover the character of commercial movement — clean, deliberate and packed with texture.

What to Bring

Wear something you can stretch and twist in, plus clean trainers that grip a little. A vest with joggers or leggings is plenty — heels belong in the heels class, not here.

Month 2–3

Adding the Polish

Developing Technique

Your hits, angles and level changes get cleaner, and you start linking them across full eight-counts. The penny drops on how musicality steers a commercial piece from the inside.

Finding Your Attitude

The personality arrives about now — body rolls, hair whips and the look on your face. Instead of merely getting the steps out, you begin aiming them at an imaginary camera.

Month 4–6

Camera Ready

Bigger Routines

Sequences stretch out, pick-up speeds up and the transitions glide. At this point you're banking whole routines you could carry to a stage or post straight to your feed.

Performance Quality

Attention slides away from recalling the steps and toward inhabiting them — your eyeline, your energy, your texture and the boldness to play it to the front.

Month 6+

The Performer

Showcase Moments

If you fancy it there are film shoots, open showcases and performance nights to aim for — take it to a crowd, or just keep turning up for the sheer enjoyment of dancing.

What Comes Next

Step up into intermediate sessions, try heels or jazz for a different flavour, or round up your mates for our hen party version.

Commercial Dance FAQ

The things first-timers most often want straight before stepping into a commercial class with us.

So what is commercial dance, really? +

It is the slick, lens-ready style you spot in music videos, on arena tours and across award-show set pieces. Think a row of dancers locked in behind a chart name — body rolls, hair whips, knife-sharp arms and bags of swagger. Our Bournemouth sessions teach that performance-first choreography, not loose freestyle.

Could I join the Bournemouth commercial class with zero dance background? +

Completely. The beginners slot is built for people who have never stepped into a studio. We break each eight-count down to a crawl, drill it until it sticks and only stack the attitude on once the moves feel easy. A good few of our weekly regulars had never danced a step before their first night.

What kit should I bring to a commercial dance session? +

Anything stretchy you can really move in — leggings or joggers, a vest or crop top, and clean trainers with a bit of bite on the sole. Leave the stiff denim at home. Pack water, and a phone is handy if you fancy filming the last run-through and checking the camera-ready look back.

What will a commercial dance class in Bournemouth set me back? +

Drop in for one class and it's £10, with no form to fill and no joining fee. Fancy committing to a stretch of weeks? Four classes in a block come to £32, working out at £8 each. Nothing is signed and nothing is locked in — simply turn up on the nights that fit your week.

Whereabouts in Bournemouth are the commercial classes held? +

Our weekly regulars gather at the town-centre studio on Commercial Road, a couple of minutes from the Triangle and the Old Christchurch Road bars and an easy hop from East Cliff, Boscombe and Westbourne. It is simple to reach on foot, by bus or by bike, with more seafront slots in the pipeline.

Is commercial just street dance or hip-hop under another name? +

Not quite. Street and hip-hop come from raw, freestyle club and battle culture, while commercial takes that same fuel and polishes it for the screen and the stage — locked-in unison, neat shapes and attitude designed to sell a single. Think of the dancers flanking a headliner at an arena gig rather than a circle throwing down at a jam.

Which tracks will we choreograph to each week? +

Mostly whatever is sitting near the top of the charts, plus pop, R&B and shiny dance-pop crossovers. The playlist gets refreshed regularly to keep every routine feeling of-the-moment, so on most nights you'll be dancing to a track you already recognise from the radio or your feed.

Does a commercial dance class count as a proper workout? +

It absolutely is, just one that never feels like a gym session. Rapid pick-up, tight isolations and flat-out repeats keep your pulse high and quietly work the legs, core and shoulders. Because your whole brain is fixed on getting the moves right, the cardio slips by almost without you noticing.

Do I need to arrive for the opening week of a block? +

Not a bit of it — drop in any week you fancy. Each class either kicks off a fresh routine or builds on foundations anyone can pick up, so you will not feel left behind turning up partway through. Regular faces tighten up quicker, but newcomers always get a warm welcome.

Are private one-to-one commercial lessons an option in Bournemouth? +

They are. Solo and small-group tuition can be arranged whenever you ask, which suits anyone wanting to sharpen a routine, get ready for a performance or climb the levels more quickly. Drop us a line and we'll talk through what you're after, the timings and the cost.
